The wedding is on Saturday 14th July, the last day of the festival, but we will be starting the celebrations on Thursday 12th with hopefully as many of you as possible ! Sanfermines itself starts on the 6th July so come earlier if you want (but don't expect to get the same hotel deals...)

San Fermin is the patron saint of Pamplona and every year the Sanfermines festival, that dates back to the Middle Ages, is held in his honour. While the Encierro (bull run) has brought international fame to the festival, in reality this is really just one part of a large-scale and wide-ranging assortment of festivities - not to mention an excuse for one of Europe’s largest street parties.

The Festival is officially started at 12 noon on 6th July with the Chupinazo in front of the town hall. Thousands of people pack the square, singing and chanting and when the rocket goes off the mayhem begins. You are likely to get covered in champagne while waiving your red scarves (panuelos) which then go around your neck to symbolise the start of the festivities.

The following morning there is a procession with San Fermin and essentially the celebrations continue solidly for the following 9 days. The Encierro runs every morning of the festival with a bull fight every evening. For families and children there are a range of amusements and activities including the famous Kilikis (Giants) roaming the streets. Click on the picture on the right to read more.

Every day there are morning, afternoon and evening activities, cllick here to see Festival programme for last year.

The Encierro is definitely the most exciting part of Sanfermines. Its popularity and fame have now spread worldwide and for those who are interested, this is your chance to see it close at hand.

Obviously, we strongly advise that you do not participate as it is extremely dangerous but thoroughly recommend you go and watch.

There is a run every morning at 8.00 am so you should be in place at least 30 mins to an hour before hand. So that's either an early start on Friday morning or a late finish to Thursday night...

There are 2 good ways that we suggest you do this. Firstly renting a balcony (ˆ20 approx) somewhere along the route. We will help organise that on the day for those that want to. Secondly to buy a ticket for the arrival in the Bull Ring (ˆ10 approx). There is a short show afterwards with all the runners and younger bulls and is well recommended.

Here are some Rules and Photos on the Encierro

(if you have the 'cojones'...)

During the festival everyone wears the traditional San Fermin dress: all white with a red sash and red scarf - in memory of the saint himself when he was beheaded over a thousand years ago.

And then...

Bring as much as you can from home for convenience sake, but don’t splash out because you may not stay white for long. Everything can be bought cheaply in Pamplona but to save time and hassle you might as well do it at home.
